Despite the extreme weather changes and the surprise rain, summer is officially here! And that means one thing for any self-respecting cinephile – the long-awaited return to open-air cinemas. So, in this article series we’re coming with the movie of the week and the movie theater of our choice, to inspire you to support your local open-air cinema.

Apart from the special atmosphere created in these small oases in a city like Athens, in hidden gardens and romantic rooftops, the genre of films always varies from place to place and you will surely discover cinematic gems, old and new, if you stray a little from Village Cinemas and American movies for two months. Say it's an artistic vacation and escape.

Yesterday, I had the pleasure of visiting the Athena cinema, in Chalandri. A place known for its unique aesthetics. However, in this article we will not focus on the space, but on the film. At the last screening we watched the "Stories not to be Told”, or "Historias para no Contar", a Spanish production directed by Cesc Guy.

It is a light comedy that presents us 5 different stories of friends and lovers, all of which have one thing in common – lies! Innocent white lies or not so much, that change the lives of the protagonists in a comical and completely humane way. The pride of European cinema lies in distancing itself from the mainstream script structures we all know by now, and this film is no exception. It pleasantly surprises us with unique twist and turns. Worthy to mention is the use of the same neighborhood that acts as a passage between the different stories, the small cafes and generally the rather familiar images that dress up the slightly surreal, Woody Allen-esc plot.

So, grab your friends, hang out on the roof of Cine Athena and enjoy.
